Talking Embedding Music into Care

Did you catch our Managing Director, Hayley speaking with fellow Registered Music Therapist Alexandra Morse about Embedding Music Into Care within the aged care industry.

This is a topic both Hayley and Alex are very passionate about. They have seen first hand the positive impact of intentional and personalised music use for clients, staff and families.

When we embed music into care we do more than put on an Elvis of Frank Sinatra CD and hope it cheers people up. We understand that music is part of a persons identity and despite the neurodegenerative journey of dementia; autobiographical music memories are well retained. This means the right music (personalised) can restore a persons sense of self, often reconnecting a person with their environment, loved ones and improving their interactions with staff.

Embedding music into care is about building the capacity of carers, families, nurses, allied health practitioners and other residential aged care staff to use music into a personalised and intentional (or goal directed) way to improve a persons quality of life and care quality. It’s about truely embedding music into the care and support systems for each individual.

Don’t worry if you missed the discussion; you can watch here.
